For 2018, they have a similar trick for the camera. Using the human eye as inspiration the dual-aperture lens can automatically adapt to lighting conditions to provide the best possible images in bright or dark situations.
When it comes to video recording, you can also slow down time with an incredible super slow-mo effect that you can be switched on during recording or turned into GIFs.
With the Galaxy S9 Plus and Galaxy S9, Samsung have redefined the capabilities of the smartphone camera, whilst refining their industry-leading design and feature set.
The 18:9 ratio Infinity Display returns, offering a near bezel-less front panel with Always-On screen technology courtesy of the Super AMOLED panel. Scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 5 also now adorns the back of the handset to keep the phone in excellent condition throughout its lifespan.
Camera
With revolutionary dual-aperture technology, Samsung has redefined the capabilities of smartphone photography. By checking the ambient light of your surroundings, the main camera on the Galaxy S9 Plus will switch between one of two f-stop modes – either f/1.5 or f/2.4 – providing you with the best possible capture.
Samsung was already a market leader in low-light smartphone photography and this feature, coupled with multi-frame noise reduction, extends their lead.
Beyond still capture, Samsung has also improved on video recording with a new super slow-motion feature. When activated, you can record an incredible 960 frames per second. Use this during a normal recording or as a one-off clip. The effect is limited to 20 shots per video, which relates to approximately 0.2 seconds in real time, which results in 6 seconds of playback.
The post-capture editing tools let you effortlessly convert these slo-mo snapshots into GIFs for instant social sharing! Looking for an animated lock screen? You can also set a slo-mo clip as your background and watch it every time you unlock the phone!
Concerned about timing? You can set an action square on the screen to ensure you don’t miss the moment. When the Galaxy S9 Plus spots motion in that square, the 960FPS will kick in!
Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) has been the go-to method for improving smartphone photography for many years. With the S9 range, Samsung has improved the feature, further helping to eliminate blur caused by shaky hands.
Exclusive to the S9 Plus with dual rear cameras are the Live Focus and Bokeh filter effects. These allow images captured at different focal lengths on both cameras to be merged, creating eye-catching effects with a professional look.
Finally, if you were ever worried about filling up your phone then have no fear. Samsung has teamed up with Google to provide unlimited cloud storage on Google Photos.
